St Peter's began as a village around a church built about 1080, and was said to be the largest parish east of London. Broadstairs outgrew it after 1841, but the two are now one civil parish, Broadstairs and St Peter's. The St Peter's ward had 7,042 people at the 2011 census. It uses the CT10 postcode.
Thanet District Council lists St Peter's as a conservation area, designated in 1973. In one, panels on a house that is not listed or a flat should sit on a side or rear slope and should not face the highway. The council says its Senior Conservation Officer can answer questions, and its map lets you check an address.
Inland from the cliff, the exposure drops, and the roof is often easier to work with. We still survey before we size anything: pitch, direction, shade from trees, the loft and where the fuse board is. Already have panels? A battery on its own is a common job, and we check your inverter first.
What we check at your address
- Whether your street is in the St Peter's conservation area, using the council's map
- Roof direction and shade from mature trees
- Existing panels, and whether the inverter suits a battery

Questions about St Peter's
Can I get solar panels in St Peter's?
Most houses can. We check your roof direction, shade and any conservation area, flat or listed building rules for your address first. Thanet District Council lists 27 conservation areas across Thanet, and four of them name Broadstairs places.
Should I choose solar only, solar and battery, or a battery only in St Peter's?
With a roof of your own, solar only is usually the best value. Solar with a battery suits homes out in the day and busy at night. A battery only suits homes that already have solar, a cheap overnight tariff, or no roof to use. Our guide to choosing shows the sums.
How much does solar cost near St Peter's?
As of October 2026 a 4 kWp system is about £5,500 to £7,500, with a 5 kWh battery about £8,500 to £12,500, and a 5 kWh battery alone about £2,750 to £4,750. These are estimates, not quotes.
